I just created a XAMPP setup preconfigured for IntegraMOD.

You can get the file [url=http]HERE[/url].

What is XAMMP? XAMMP will allow you to simulate your web host on your Windows XP PC. You can install full versions of IntegraMOD including a copy of your currently running forum in order to test upgrading and modding without touching your live forum.

What is pre configured in this version of XAMMP? I setup this version so that PHP 4 is default, but this can be changed to PHP 5.

One installation of IntegraMOD 1.40. This is just so you can see it running. You can install as many versions as you'd like. (login ID & password are im140)

MySQLDumper, This is a great MySQL program written in php that I use on my own host to backup my DB's on a schedule. The really nice part of this allows you to import your large DB's into MySQL very easily. If you install this on your own host please do not use it in the mysqldumper folder, create a non descriptive one instead.

Copy_Users.php, This will allow you to copy your users out of one DB ind into another.

BigDump.php, In case you don't want to use mysqldumper. This will import large DB's into a database very easily.

Michaelo's programs lister. This is a web page that allows you to see your installed programs and open them very easily. Thank you Mike!

There is no installation needed for XAMPP. Just run the XAMPP.EXE file in your root directory(C]To run XAMMP[/b] open the XAMMP folder and double click the xampp-control.exe file.

This will start the control panel. click start next to Apache and MySQL. You should see a green running sign next to each when they are ready.
[flash=,:d7dolj52]http://www.myhorrorstories.com/images/XAMMP.jpg[/flash:d7dolj52]

Once they are running click Admin next to Apache. This will open the XAMMP main page in your browser.
[flash=,:d7dolj52]http://www.myhorrorstories.com/images/XAMMP0.jpg[/flash:d7dolj52]

To see and use the pre installed programs look on the left menu at the botton and click "Open Sites"

You will see a few links, like im140. Click this link, it will open a pre installed version of IM 140. (login name and password are im140)
[flash=,:d7dolj52]http://www.myhorrorstories.com/images/XAMMP1.jpg[/flash:d7dolj52]

If you goto the IM Tools in the Pre installed list of XAMMP programs you will find the copy users tool and bigdump.

If you have any problems please ask here.

How do I install programs like a new copy of IntegraMOD for use in XAMPP?

If you locate the htdocs folder under XAMPP you can create a new folder here and copy all files needed to run your program.

How do I create a new SQL DB?

From the XAMPP main page locate phpMyAdmin in the Tools section. Once the page opens type a name for your new DB into the "Create new database" field. Then hit the create button.
[flash=,:d7dolj52]http://www.myhorrorstories.com/images/XAMMP2.jpg[/flash:d7dolj52]

You then need to create a user for the DB. Click the privlidges Link. Then the "Add new user" link.
[flash=,:d7dolj52]http://www.myhorrorstories.com/images/XAMMP3.jpg[/flash:d7dolj52]

Fill out the user name and passwords fields. Then select the "Check All" link. Scroll to the bottom and hit Go.
[flash=,:d7dolj52]http://www.myhorrorstories.com/images/XAMMP4.jpg[/flash:d7dolj52]

That's it! Your all set.

Damn Fubie. Great work.

I was going to try installing IM on XAMPP last weekend but was to lazy to figgure it all out. This will be great.

I want to test AJAXED 2.0.2 on IM to see if it will work.

Thanks bro. I will give it a go this weekend.

No probs mate, just glad I can help out.

Unfortunatly Apache will not start unless port 80 is clear. So anything using that port would first need to be stopped.

I'm hoping most people that run their own forums start using this so they can make changes or upgrade their forums without harming the live board.

This also has the added bonus of being able to run from a portable drive like a USB Flash Drive. I have mine with me all the time so I can tinker anywhere!

Remember if you are on line (broadband/cable etc.) your site can be accessed via port 80 so never use root with no password...

ok, i have not set this up yet, but i do have 2 questions, and excuse me for being so naive.

how do you clear port 80, or find out if it is being used and how do i pw protect it?

and if you put it on a flash drive, do you have to have it on the c drive at all?

thanks in advance guys, you guys really make setting up, running and modding/updating everything so easy, i cannot express my thanks to you enough.

If you are asking if port 80 is clear it most likely is. But when you start the XAMPP control panel and start Apache it will not start if something is using that port.

As for PW protecting, there is a link on the main XAMPP page on the left "Security" I believe that lets you set PW's

If you put it on a flash drive there is no need to have it on your C Drive.

Fantastic! I wish I'd heard of XAMPP before this; it would have made things a lot easier for me. I'll definitely be puttin' a hurting on this program. Thanks!

Oh, and a note: most (but not all) residential ISPs block inbound access to port 80. If you're in doubt, use [url=http]ShieldsUP!![/url]. If you aren't in doubt, use a firewall anyway.

open the bigdump.php file in a file editor. You need to enter your db name, and the sql db that you are importing it into.

Bigdump does not back a db up.

stop apache, then close the control panel. You may wanna just reboot to clear everything instead of hunting for the culprit.

Did you click the MySql start button?
All the other reports are just telling you MySql has not started.

I know is was a stupid question but I once spent an hour fixing something and then realised I forgot to plus it in <img>

Did the 140 install go smoothly?

Click on Settings in the small xampp window and make sure MySql is checked.

Ok, you may need to backup, Can you un wash the dishes and start it? <img> I wish it were that simple.

Wow, it's really strange that it worked once. Can you try clicking the "run as a service" box for mysql?

All the other reports are just telling you MySql has not started.

I know is was a stupid question but I once spent an hour fixing something and then realised I forgot to plus it in <img>

Did the 140 install go smoothly?

Click on Settings in the small xampp window and make sure MySql is checked.

i clicked on the Settings and MySql is not checked, i checked it but it makes no difference. it is like it will not keep the tick on MySql.

Fubie, Mike, either one of you ever do the remote access thing? i am pulling my hair out here, i know it was wierd that it worked once, and usually if i mess something up, after uninstalling, then reinstalling all is well, but nothing i do seems to help.

The simpler of the 2 is big dump. But I prefer sqldump because it backs up as well.

We are all glad to help.

Place your db file in the htdocs folder with your edited bigdump.php file. then run bigdump.php in your browser.

ok, if you used mysqldumper to backup your db, just use it to import the db into a new sql db.

In mysqldumper on the left select the sql db you want to import to.

Then goto restore in mysqldumper.

Select the db file you want to import.

Hit restore.

It will give you a popup. Make sure the info is what you want.

Hit ok.

Sit back and wait.

i did not use mysqldumper to back up my database, i did not know it was available to use on the server i was on, as far as i know it was not.

i saved my database as an sql file to my hard drive before i had to move everything to a new hosting.

so is it even possible for me to use mysqldumper?

i edited the bigdump.php file to include the db name, user name, and pw. what would be the path i used to run that?

and then could i back it up with mysqldumper?

how would i get and use mysqldumper on my server?

ok, got the database in and when i go to open sites, and click on the one that i have been setting up, i get this

Warning: mysql_connect(): Access denied for user 'ayasha'@'localhost' (using password: YES) in C:xampphtdocsforumdbmysql4.php on line 54

Warning: mysql_error(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL-Link resource in C:xampphtdocsforumdbmysql4.php on line 571

Warning: mysql_errno(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL-Link resource in C:xampphtdocsforumdbmysql4.php on line 572
phpBB : Critical Error

Could not connect to the database

i am wondering if i would not be better off to wait, until i can afford the amount of space i had before, and just setting up all the "testing" forums i had on a server somewhere and not my comptuer. if each one is going to be as hard to setup, but i am hoping it is just me and i will get the hang of it because if i could have all this on my HD i would only need 1 live forum.

and Mike, the MySqldumper looks to me like a seperate program you would install on your hosting to mangage large db's with, but i don't know, Fubie would be the better one to answer

Big dump imports a large db into your sql db in chunks. It's 1 file and is very simple to use.

mysqldumper is more complex. It backs up manually or via a cron job.

You can download each [url=http]Here.[/url]

cleo,

You need to edit your db in phpmyadmin to reflect your new domain and db setup.

Your domain on xampp will be localhost.

well, one thing is for sure, i am sure getting an education doing this, what do i edit?

when i set up my forum, and i filled out the info on the install, i used 'localhost'

so is there somewhere else i need to edit?

edit: in the table phpbb_config, would i change

server_name graphicsplayhouse.com

to

server_name localhost?

again, i do apologize for asking so many questions.

Edit your config.php to reflect your new db name and password.

go into phpmyadmin in xampp, open your new db from the left.

click on the SQL tab at the top.

You should get a large empty box.

Below in the code replace forum with the folder name you are using for your forum.

Then pasteit in the box and hit Go.

UPDATE `phpbb_config` SET `config_value` = '/forum/' WHERE `config_name` = 'script_path' LIMIT 1 ;

then goto that SQL tab again and past this in it.

UPDATE `phpbb_config` SET `config_value` = 'localhost' WHERE `config_name` = 'server_name' LIMIT 1 ;

Hit go.

Then see if your forum comes up.

well, here is what i did

i named the database i created the same as the one i was using, used the same user name and pw.

the folder i have my forum in is named forum, so i did not have to change anything in that line

i ran both lines, and it changed and gave me the message everything was done ok,

but i still cannot get to my forum.

thank you so much for your help Fubie, and when i get back to this, if i still have the errors, i will let you know.

it is connecting with the im140 just fine, but not the one i added.

In main xampp page select phpMyAdmin click on privileges and make sure ayasha is there and give the privileges needed (same as root). If you are not there add ayasha with the same password as you use in the config.php file and set privileges to %(all databases) privileges to ALL PRIVILEGES should be same as root.

you may want to start from scratch and take it one step at a time. It is even possible that your db was not imported correctly.

Try running mysqldumper in IE or Opera. It has gotten stuck a time or two in FF.

what version of win XP do you have and what service packs.

Do you have any security software at all running.

Please run the xampp-portcheck.exe in the xampp folder. Make sure everything is free.

Ok, this is my last idea. goto the xampp folder and run mysql_start.bat

Hopefully that will start it.

ok, got that forum up and running on my HD, but now i am faced with a new problem, how do i get into the acp?

it keeps taking me to

//http://graphicsplayhouse.com/forum/login.php?redirect=admin/index.php&admin=1&sid=93598ac689c72f274fd9647db760951f

and that is not the localhost. if i manually type in the url

//http://localhost/forum/admin/index.php

it stills tries to take me to the first url. any ideas now?

edit: i got in, kept messing with the url til i did, now let me get everything i wanted off this one, and get rid of it. <img> it has been such a headache.

but let me go ahead and ask this question, when i set up a copy of my live forum on my HD, will there be any problems when i do upgrades, in getting the upgrades to work right on the live forum? as you can see with the 2 urls i used above. will the "localhost/forum/index.php carry over to a live forum? or will it be right when i upload the modded files and run the sqls on the live database on the server?

Re: XAMPP setup preconfigured for IntegraMOD.

PostAuthor: evolver » Thu Apr 13, 2006 2:42 pm

I've had the same problem...

But there is a simple way...
When trying to log in, I was taken to my online forum...
http://yourdomain.com/forum/login.php?sid=xxxxxxxxxxxx

Solution:
In your browser, change 'yourdomain.com' in that URL to 'localhost' (but keep the rest untouched)
http://localhost/forum/login.php?sid=xxxxxxxxxxxx
By doing so, you can login to you xampp installed forum

Once you're inside your admin panel, change domainname in your config.
The next time, you won't have that problem anymore!!

You can integrate new mods and updates in your xampp installation...
There's no way, for them to be transfered to your online forum...
xampp is no FTP-program, and it doesn't even have the permission (username and password) to do so.

But maybe you're concerned about the SQL database?
As long as you are working on localhost, it will only use the SQL from localhost...

ok, let me put it this way

i want to do a mod

i mod the files on my localhost and all works fine

i open up my ftp program, transfer the modded files to my live forum

i go to myphpadmin in my cpanel and run the sql quieries.

will there be anything in the modded files, that will carry the url 'localhost' over to the live forum?

Re: XAMPP setup preconfigured for IntegraMOD.

PostAuthor: evolver » Thu Apr 13, 2006 3:37 pm

Cleo, those files call a domainname, specified in config.php
Only config.php holds the information to a domainname, MOD's never take place on config.php
Just never overwrite config.php by the one from your xampp testsite!!

To play it safe:
Keep a backup of config.php from your online site at special place...

For SQL quieries on xampp, you will use the MOD instructions...
For SQL quieries online, you will do the same.
So...they can't have any influence from each other...

I keep two copies, one is a complete unmodified copy of my site and the other is the one I modify. If after update the site I find major errors I can simple upload the unmodified copy. As evolver said, (most important point) always keep a copy of you site config some where safe, its real easy to accidentally overwrite it (Ive done hundreds of time <img>

PS If you want to keep the database size small, you can dont really need the search word and dictionary/spell check tablesà¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬Ãƒâ€šÃ‚ ¦ They are often very bigà¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬Ãƒâ€šÃ‚ ¦

eAccelerator for php 5.1.1 found somewhere from a user in xampp forums. Now I can use mod_rewrite + speed of eAccelerator.

As soon 1.5.2 will be realease, I will remove the file from my server.

Quick stepts to install :

1 : download and put the file in phpext
2 : open apachebinphp.ini

Modify it to look like this :

Code:
extension=eAccelerator_511.dll
eaccelerator.shm_size = "0"
eaccelerator.cache_dir = "C:apachefriendsxampptmp"
eaccelerator.enable = "1"
eaccelerator.optimizer = "1"
;eaccelerator.debug = "0"
;eaccelerator.check_mtime = "1"
;eaccelerator.filter = ""
;eaccelerator.shm_max = "0"
;eaccelerator.shm_ttl = "0"
;eaccelerator.shm_prune_period = "0"
;eaccelerator.shm_only = "0"
eaccelerator.compress = "1"
eaccelerator.compress_level = "9"
eaccelerator.keys = "shm_and_disk"
eaccelerator.sessions = "shm_and_disk"
eaccelerator.content = "shm_and_disk"
;eaccelerator.admin.name =
;eaccelerator.admin.password =

It's hard to tell for me if this is the best config to get the fastest speed, but it works great.

It only occurs on the windows servers. Can you try to delete the test topic and clear cache and resync stats?

type cd hit enter

cdxamppphp-switch.bat

You should get the switch dialog.

oh, ok, No, this shouldn't be the issue.

I have miine on a flash drive as well.

As long as xampp folder is in the root.

Replace the C for your drive letter.

well, i get a directory name not valid.

and isn't this the same as executing the php-switch.bat file? when i do that, the window comes up and tells me the working version in xampp is PHP 4.

if that's what you get by clicking the php-switch.bat file you need to do it thru the command line as I posted above.
