Have you updated to the latest release of phpbb 2.0.20 and security patch 1.03 I think this will solve your problem?

I'm there, still get this annoying message everyday! hah. I wish this thing worked!

I've read somewhere on here that there is no solution for it as of right now. That could be right or wrong. idk.

as gffb suggest I think it was sorted in recent updates. Are you up to date?

Nope. I am up to date with all patches and still get that message. I've disabled it.

You need to check all the file edits for phpbb security 1.0.3 that are on the install sheet that Teelk did....It does sound like you have a bit of missing code...

Also check you have set the correct backup folder to chmod 777

Your link has nothing to do with this topic....we are talking about phpbb security daily backup

you are referring to optimising the database and the banner....

The daily backup works perfectly for me.

Make sure that you have the correct directory set in the ACP and then you can try CHMOD 777

I still have this problem as well, I thought it was because I'm using a windows server.

I used the premoded files, so all file edits should be fine right?. Also double checked backup dir and it is set to chmod 777

I run Windows as well, and can't get it to work. This is due to path issue differences between Unix and Windows. Permissions aren't the issue. I don't know if there is a fix for it, and if there is, I haven't found it.

Well, I'm running Linux, so I don't think this is the issue.

i used the premodded files as well. As Jason said there just doesn't seem to be a fix for it. I am completely 100% upgraded and premodded files were used for everything. Everything on my site seems to be working fine except for this.

It's not a huge deal but that daily database backup deal is a really good thing I think.

For Windows, that is. I know it works on Linux, as many people are using it. <img>

I have give that link because there where 3 issues that not worked, Daily database Backup Failed.

The other 2 is the banner change and optimize, and Cron is disabled, if i change that the same problem exist.

For now there is no solution for this, it has to do with the hosting provider.

Sorry for my english.

Yes I agree, has to be with your hosts since I have tested this with two different hosts (same upgrade path used) and one works the other doesn't. And Jason the one that doesn't work IS unix.

If I remember correctly from the discussion on the old site, it had to do with...

1. Backup folder not present (not an issue for you guys)
2. Backup folder not CHMOD'd correctly (not an issue for you guys)
3. Security updates & IM updates applied incorrectly (seemingly not an issue for you guys)
4. Host disallowing the SYSTEM command (making it a hosting issue)

Do these still apply? For the record, I have never been able to get an automatic backup to work. I gave up long ago... you guys have more sticktoitiveness than I do!

I think reason #4 makes the most sense. If you think about it, making that backup uses the hosts bandwidth, and I could see where some hosts would disallow this ability for security purposes as it would be pretty easy if somebody wanted to bring the server down to maybe manipulate this code to run maybe 10 backups at a time of a 500mb database and eat up all the bandwidth for everyone else on the shared host.

I don't know if that's possible, but I can see hosts disallowing this feature if it were possible. Shared hosts have to be very careful anymore with security. I know Ipowerweb puts between 500 and 800 domains on a single server.

It is most likely #4. The system command is a *nix only command and therefore the daily database backup will not work on a Windows server. And, it is often disabled on cheaper and shared hosts using *nix servers.

[Copy Post]The Problem with the windows based servers is down to phpbb_security and the mysqldump.exe path....

Try this code in phpbb_security.php around line ~1192
Code: Select all
 if ( ($last_backup != $today) && (date('H') >= $backup_time) ){                         // Locate your copy of mysqldump and edit the path below //                             // Linux path (most distros?)         //$my_path = "/usr/bin/";                             //Windows path (Windows 2000 using xampp)         //$my_path = "C:/xampp/xampp/mysql/bin/";                             // I'm using Xampp so I use the following...         $my_path = "C:/xampp/xampp/mysql/bin/";           system($my_path ."mysqldump -u". $dbuser ." -p". $dbpasswd ." -h ". $dbhost ." ". $dbname ." > ". (($_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT']) ? $_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT'] : $HTTP_SERVER_VARS['DOCUMENT_ROOT']) . $board_config['script_path'] . $backup_folder ."/". $backup_file  ."-". date('Y-m-d') .".sql", $fp);                 if ($fp == 0)         $msg = 'Your Daily Database Backup Was Completed.';     else         $msg = 'Your Daily Database Backup Failed. Error:# ' . $fp;

In the event of an error I have added the return var which will result in passing a # to indicate the error type... Note system should be available on all windows home systems... Not sure if different Linux distros use different paths for mysqldump but this should fix most problems...

PS. Remember if you copy this code change &quot... to " as the php bbcode removes HTML on this site

Optional approach...

[code]  if( file_exists( '/usr/bin/mysqldump'))     $my_path = "/usr/bin/";elseif( file_exists( 'C]

wil it be ok if i use a password protected folder for backups? or a subdomain?

RE: Mike's post...

It would be nice if this was included in the ACP as a configuration setting. The path on Windows could vary, depending on how it was installed. For example, my local machine is:
C:Program FilesMySQLMySQL Server 4.1binmysqldump.exe

I'm not positive of the location on my server, but it is probably the same (or similar) location. Although, I have to wonder, will the spaces cause problems? I wouldn't think so....

[color=brown]Jason see] [url=http]Update[/url]

This is about as good as it gets... I have edited the phpbb_security to look for the file including as many possible paths as I can think of. I also check environment variables and the pathà¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬Ãƒâ€šÃ‚ ¦

I could have searched the entire drive but a little over the top <img>

This should work for 99% of people however if anyone runs into a problem all we need to know is the path and we can provide a solutionà¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬Ãƒâ€šÃ‚ ¦

I'm getting this problem too with phpbb security 1.02, and I'm now trying to upgrade to phpbb security 1.03 but I can't seem to download. I tried going to the old archive to get it, however, the download icon has disappeared.

So does anyone have the upgrade file?

Also getting this problem.

I am on an SBD unix shared host.

I am going to check with my host to see if they have the feature turned off.

Edit: My host allows the SYSTEM command.

Well i just want to let you know, that i tried this backup thing on a free server and 2 payment server

The result is:

freeserver: failed
1. payment server: failed
2. payment server: WORKS!!!!
so it seems it depends on servers type too <img>

yep, that's what i figured and would explain why a few of the other issues I'm having such as the teamspeak html code which feeds from a TS server also doesn't work. <img>
