login attemps config

After looking through my acp, i found out that

1) in phpbbSecurity config you can set the amount of login attempts, after to much tries you get bannend. default = 3

2) in General Configuration you also can set the amount of login attempts, after to much attempt you get block for a will. default = 5

I don't know if this is a problem, and if one override the other?
I prefer the one in General config, where the user isn't banned, but blocked for awhile.

I am not certain either, but a point of note, the phpbb security mod has login attempt mod but the recent phpbb updates included a similar mod. the phpbb security bans the user after failed attempts, whereas the update banned users for a period of 30 minutes.

The dev team here favours the phpbb core mod as it is part of core upgrading and only puts a temporary ban on.

I think your right. A ban for 30 minutes is better than a ban for live. There are people who forget there Login, but still try and try to login.
With a ban for a period you allow them to search (maybe at home) for there login and then try again.

So my favour also goes to the phpBB. But now, how to get rid of that part in the phpbb security mod.

I placed this same question at http://phpbb-tweaks.com/ but they deleted it after awhile, because they only give support to paying users.

I love them all, including the ones you now have to pay for. BUT its a hobby for me. And my Family will not be happy if I spent alot of money at my hobby.

They even want me to pay more attention to them, instead of sitting every evening behind my PC
