First up I am not sure where the team are at in doing this..or even if anyone is doing it; as I know you are all busy with the next release of IM and am sure the upgrade will be contained within it.
However a dull sunday led me to spend a couple of hours doing my own upgrade and I have done so with no errors thus far.
I have however missed out the edits to the following files as PCP makes the files redundant (read not there):
includes/usercp_avatar.php
includes/usercp_confirm.php
includes/usercp_register.php
I shall run some searches and see if the code to edit can be found elsewhere but before I do I am wondering where the team stand with this?

A Dev member has had a beta version for some time and the update should be released anytime now... here are my notes on the beta and they should help you solve your issues.
- The only thing from the update that can't be integrated are the edits to usercp_confirm.php and usercp_register.php that deal with zlib, png's, and image confirmation which pcp does differently.
- There are edits to privmsg.php which aren't actually needed since profilcp/profilcp_privmsg.php has taken over for this file. I left them in anyway, since it's probably a good idea to keep up to date, for some reason I'm sure.
- The edits to usercp_avatar.php and profile.php are found in profilcp/functions_profile.php in IM.

LOL
I just didnt want to release my version and then have IM release their version and have them differ in any way. Makes sense for me to hold off.

(sigh) So I take it that the release of the 2.0.21 upgrade is an indication that we're a ways off of getting 1.4.1 out? Or is that not necessarily true.
I don't need a timeframe, I guess my question is that if I was paying $50/month for a server with php5 and I paid for 6 months up-front, would I expect to be able to put my website up on this server before my 6 month renewal comes up or what <img> ? lol It's not a big deal I just really thought we'de have 141 by now so I didn't cancel my virtual server account when I got it about a month ago.

cant put that pressure on the IM people. You paid for the server a bit premature.

No that really wasn't it. I got out of the IM scene for a little while and got a little out of touch. Before I purchased the server, I checked phpbb.com and found out that phpbb 2.0.17 was compatible with PHP5. So at that point I went ahead and upgraded IM from 1.3.2d to 1.4.0 and then upgraded all the way to 2.0.20.
It wasn't until moving the entire site over to the new server and trying to set it up that I found out that even though IM runs 2.0.20, they did not upgrade the PHP5 compatibility when 2.0.17 came out.
I'm not mad about it at all. I'm just saying PHP5 compatibility is essential if we want to keep this software spreading over the internet because there are a lot of people in my situation because most dedicated servers and virtual hosts are coming preloaded with PHP5 now. My site's traffic is so heavy that the shared host that I am on is running slow (and the presence of 400+ other sites on the server doesnt hurt). As of now we're just doing what we can to just "tough it out" with the slow page loads and whatnot in hopes that a php5 compatible version would come out soon.
I'm just a little antsy to get on the new server where a test version of my site (on plain phpbb) shows page generation times about 32 times faster than the server I'm on.

Yeah lots of servers are php5 now. No doubt that will become a problem. If you have taken a look at the original IM site. It is being updated to 5 with the new features it seems.
I cant wait till we get the 2.0 out, and the 1.41 will be nice too.

the 2.0.21 update was done out of necessity to keep current with phpBB. It has no affect on the release of 141. If you compare the sizes of phpbb and Integramod, you will see that phpBB is a small part of Integramod, so even though phpBB is php5 compatible, most of the mods are not. Teelk and Mike did an outstanding job making Integramod php5 compatible. The wait now is related to fixing the little nuisance bugs as far as I know.

Am sure the changes for making IM run okay with php5 are readily available somewhere for those that just can not wait.
You know we could all benefit from a page that shows us what current projects/mods/updates are being tackled and by whom. This would then hopefully allow the community to see whats goign on a little more and also try and avoid 2 or more people working seperately on the same thing.

^^^ I'm on the same boat as the above statement.
I love IM but i really wish we had more of a "status" report on where the dev team is on new projects. I remember back when 1.4.0 was coming out and all I kept hearing was "it's coming soon." Personally "soon" to me means like a week or two so I would check the site constantly waiting for the new version to come out and after about a month and a half I got bored and I stuck with 1.3.2d until just a few weeks ago. If i'd known from the beginning that 1.4.0 would have been months away I would have easily been more patient because I wouldn't be going to the site everyday hoping it would be sitting there waiting for me to download

*edit*
Actually I wasn't waiting for 1.4.0 to come out now that I remember, I was actually waiting for the upgrade path. That's what seemed to take forever. Sorry I couldn't remember this has been a while ago.

I say dont rush a good thing, but dont let it bleed to death. I am a patient person.
A dev area is a great idea though. Looking forward to seeing what comes of this.
Yay for IM

@ Simon N
I think you should not give your update code, as you probably can not support al the questions that can come to you.
@ everybody
The updates from phpBB can be php5 compatable, but IM is more than phpBB

) Developers
I can tell you, they are working very hard to get the job don, but i think we better wait till it is ready, putting more pressure to it is not goanna help.
It will be ready, when it is ready!

i wasn't trying to put pressure on you guys at all. The only pressure i'm putting on the dev team is to not lead people on to think it's going to be "soon" when it might be months away...that's all i'm saying. I know at least 2 months ago I read on here that 1.4.1 is coming out soon. Once again I feel that soon is within a month, honestly. Soon means you should be checking the forums everyday to see if it's out yet.
I'm not being bitter or anything at all

Not really I was told this upgrade is very minor outside of the PHP5 compatibility. IM just doesn't have as many devs working on it as, say, phpbb has working on their stuff.
and the IM devs have a lot more stuff to do obviously.

why dont we all get to gether and have a training session? they can train the volunteers who are willin to join the IM School or something like that <img> hehe.. and give them projects to work on with a limited time.. bla bla.. and so on.. i guess that way we can find lots of telanted users who might be useful in the future

It is a difficult one. Much of learning php and mysql tends to be done on an individual basis and is a long process if you want to do it right. Despite my post count I have never learnt it. modding from the phpbb core is tricky, and if you do not have some coding ability could be risky to do so, when you have a userbase as large as we do or may do in future.
I agree that it would be beneficial to offer more information on how to develop the systems in the future.
