Guest Time

I've tried the timezone fix by evolver but it has no effect on guest times.

My issue is this: I can get my times to be correct if the users are logged in. If the users are NOT logged in, the time is always 2 hours off. All of my members are in Missouri USA but I assume the actual server is 2 time zones away.

I allow my students to post as guests and such so I'd kind of like the guest times to be correct. Any changes I make in Config or Config+ have no noticeable effect on guest times....

Thanks...

The reason is b/c when a Guest is logged in they see the time that the website is set to.

You can change the time on the server (if you have access; and REALLY wanted to).

Yeah, I found this topic:

and it never was resolved but ended up with what you are saying.

My situation is simpler than most. All of my members are in the same timezone as I am. They are mostly middle school kids and I'd like to eliminate the time issues altogether.

Could I tweak something so that my board always displays the time+2 for guests and then just adjust the two time settings in config and config+ to get the right logged in time and then override user choice?

That wouldn't take a small fix...

To start, you would have to change every instance of time() to time() + 7200
(one hour = 3600)
Then times might become allright for guests, but wrong for registered users...

I don't recommend it...

First, ask your host if it's possible to change server timezone...
If they can't, consider taking another host with servers at your timezone, or where it can at least be changed to your timezone...

However, if you are talking about students...
It's much more secure to give them access to a private forum to keep malicious people out...
And if they are YOUR students, it's very easy to make accounts for them yourself and give them their username and passwords at school so they don't have to go through the registration process themselves...

Here, even University Students sites had to go private...
Because...some students were offered a free place to stay near school, but not for nothing ofcourse...

Things like this happen everywhere, but sometimes nobody knows about it...
For the safety sake of your students, think about it!!
