PostAuthor: spaniel » Fri Apr 28, 2006 9:15 pm

you need to replace your install directory.
The error your getting means there is info after the close php ?> , or it is missing

Header already sent
Any text (including blank lines) placed after ?> at the end of a page will result in 'Header already sent'

I found a break under the ?> in the install.php file, which i've now removed, and I still get the same error message.

my webhost is Dreamhost.com - they support both php 4 and php 5 and the sql version is:

MySQL - 5.0.18-standard-log

However, i havent added anything to the database yet; i've only gone to the install/install.php and found that long list of errors.

PROBLEM SOLVED!

In the download from this site the file
includes/functions_categories_hierarchy.php

doesnt hav the .php extension.

I've corrected this error on my install and it works now.

evolution21, check your .php file extensions, chmod, and that the ?> is the very last line in the .php files.

Correct chmods for the whole packaged are
CHMOD Setting Directory or file name
777 album_mod/upload
777 album_mod/upload/cache
777 backup
777 cache
777 files
777 files/thumbs
777 images/avatars
777 images/smiles
777 includes/cache_tpls
666 includes/def_auth.php
666 includes/def_icons.php
666 includes/def_qbar.php
666 includes/def_themes.php
666 includes/def_tree.php
666 includes/def_words.php
666 includes/phpbb_security.php
666 language/lang_xxxxxx/lang_contact_faq.php
666 language/lang_xxxxxx/lang_extend_xxxxxx.php
666 language/lang_xxxxxx/lang_faq.php
666 language/lang_xxxxxx/lang_faq_attach.php
666 language/lang_xxxxxx/lang_prillian_faq.php
777 modules
777 modules/cache
777 modules/cache/explain
777 pafiledb/cache
666 pafiledb/cache/data_global.php
777 pafiledb/cache/templates
777 pafiledb/cache/templates/XXXXXX
777 pafiledb/cache/templates/XXXXXX/admin
777 pafiledb/images/screenshots
777 pafiledb/uploads
666 profilcp/functions_profile.php
777 profilcp/def
666 profilcp/def/def_userxxxxxx.php
666 templates/xxxxxx/sub_templates.cfg
777 var_cache
666 config.php

the install files only need to be 644 or 664 and the folder 755.

I can only guess that spaniel's files were corrupted as this is the first instance of it's kind.

I will check later if the download is corrupted, by unzipping it on a server. Unzipping at home and uploading all files is normally the root of the corruption.

Also it might be a good idea to check the update files as well as i think these problems started when i tried to update from 2.0.17 to 2.0.20.

many thanks

Dan

The unzipping on the server normally depends on the type of hosting package you have, not the computer you have at home. If, like it suggests in the install guide, you have something like CPanel, then you can use your hosts file manager program to unzip the site on the server. What sort of hosting do you have? Is it self built or do you have some sort of control panel interface?

I use Dreamhost.com so i hav to ftp files using an ftp program. This time tho I decided to use the other option of uploading the .zip file and decompressing it using Telnet/SSH.

It took less than 3 minutes to do so and everything is running smoothly. However, it's now asking me to update from 2.0.17 to 2.0.20 which i'm reluctant to do because I think that's where it all started to go wrong.

Your installation does not seem to be up to date. Updates are available for your version of phpBB, please visit http://www.phpbb.com/downloads.php to obtain the latest version.
The latest available version is phpBB 2.0.20.You are running phpBB 2.0.17.

The website that taught me how to unzip the .zip file using SSH was
http://www.jiffynet.net/faqs/sshcommands.html
and I used the SSH program Terminal which comes as standard on a Mac.

Now tho, i'm just reluctant to upgrade to 2.0.20, what should I do?
