Just curious. Anyone know exactly what it means for the "DDos Attempt?" I was just wondering because my phpbb security caught it. Can anyone explain what someone may have been trying to do?

DDoS (Denial of Service):
A denial-of-service attack (also, DoS attack) is an attack on a computer system or network that causes a loss of service to users, typically the loss of network connectivity and services by consuming the bandwidth of the victim network or overloading the computational resources of the victim system.

Meaning, Creating false connections so that legit users cant access your server.

ah hah!

So that's why my forums went through a period of time where the server would crash constantly.

Way to go PHPBB security! I noticed after the IP was banned, the site started to work again more consistantly.

For those of you who don't know, I just recently purchased a Virtual Server because my site crashed about once an hour and my host says it was due to exceeding my hourly bandwidth...I believe it was database queries actually.

I ended up not being able to make the move because the new server is running PHP5 so right now i'm just waiting for 1.4.1 to come out so I can move it. But before I upgraded to 1.4.0 I was still on 1.3.2d back on I think phpbb 2.0.13? or something like that.

Lesson learned : Keep up with the upgrades. Don't be lazy.
