Mailing lists - does any mod do that?

My forum does not have many new messages, as it is mostly collecting guides for travelers (for Japan).

I would like to have a tool to inform from time to time the members of the board of the latest changes. I do not want an automatic message to be sent, but just to be able to write a message to members who wish to receive it.

This is the problem is that I would like a way to inform members of this mailing list and, if they wish so, remove them from such list.

Does any mod proposes something like that?

You could also create a Group for this, then just mass email that group.

I used to use it when my 140 site was up and had no trouble installing it. That was a few versions back mind you.

I installed it on a 1.4.0 board currently without much trouble. Only thing to watch out for is if you use extreme sytles to compile the templates you'll need to delete the cache file associated with m2f_html_email_body.tpl otherwise HTML emails won't send correctly.

Just an idea:

How about using '[url=http]Digests[/url]' for this?
It does almost the same thing, and it's already included!

And you can even modify the template for it, if you like...
That way, it can be turned into a newsletter easily.

Digest could be a great thing, it is just a pity you can not add some extra comments with the messages you send. And for the moment, it is a little difficult to register. But it could, indeed, be greatly improved.

Being able to add your own text to the message that is sent to the members of the board via the digest. Like for example "this week we have new interesting articles on ..."

I believe that this would render the communication more lively and more interesting for the people who receive the digest. Better than just a list of titles or quotes.
