I know this is not supported and know there will be possibly many changes to it in the future, but... What if I did (theoretically) move my live site to 141?, How would I go about it?.

Sorry, but NO.

We will not even entertain the idea. Nor should you. Especially if you are asking how to do it.

riiiiggght, judging by the maturity of your answer, I assume this is not advisable.

Thanks I was not going to "move" it as such but rather copy db as well as data over for further testing. But thanks anyway.

I tried this last night. I installed 1.4.1 to a subdirectory on my forum and got it working. Then I went into phpmyadmin and changed the settings on my live forum (script location) to point to the directory that 1.4.1 was in, then I changed the information in config.php in my 1.4.1 directory to point to the live forum database (this was at like 4am so nobody was on my site) and I can tell you most certainly that it doesn't work at all. You get a weird error message followed by a "cannot connect to the database" message. (This was purely out of curiosity to see how different the code is between 140 and 141 to see how difficult the upgrade will eventually be)

The good news for you if you're excited to get your forum upgraded is that I'm not seeing any major errors in the script other than the error I incurred while trying to install it on my PHP5 server which is a minor fix because the site worked when I moved it over, just couldn't get the initial install to work. So I suspsect 1.4.1 won't be in beta version for too horribly long. Looks like the great coders of IntegraMod di a really great job writing this code.

some ppl... The official post about the beta says do not do this. When you downloaded it, the dl notes said dont do this. You said, "I know im not supposed to do this, BUT WHAT IF I DO?" And my post was immature?

Yes it was.... get over yourself.

I followed you guys here to the new site and had no real issues with the other to be honest and always got the answers I needed with a good attitude.

I'm sorry if I didn't make myself clear and I'm sure you've answer this many times already but as they say here... SHIT HAPPENS!

There's a certain way to go about things.

Have a nice day <img>

I saw no immaturity...I only saw someone asking a question they were told from the start not to ask and bother with.

You say you followed the guys here from the old site; you didnt have to, you chose to. Could always choose to go back there and see how good the support is?

In all honesty if I was to ask a question like that I would be expecting some seriously harsh comments.....and as such would be wearing my asbestos suit <img>

Anyway, no need to keep going on about this; I have already apologised for asking. <img>

ok, answer...Yes it can be done. I have already done it on http://www.forumimages.co.uk
I only did this to test it because forumimages is a dead site since I have moved all the content and support here to integrmod.com
Im not sure why ppl are having trouble doing this. Perhaps the difference is that my host is php4x
now here is why it is extremely foolish to do so. My main site is duiplayground.com. and I built it on integramod 132. I did all the updates as they became available up to 132d. By adding additional mods I broke my forum and try as I might, I could not fix it by overwritting it with the default 132d files. Out of desparation I updated to 132e, which was beta and also came with the same "do not use on a live forum" warnings. It worked and I thought my problems were solved. 132e never made it out of beta, so as phpbb updates were released, i was stuck. Orphaned! When the 140 updates were released they did not work for me. I could not ask for support, because I had broken the #1 rule of being a beta tester. My guess is I spent over 100 hours learning just enough sql and php to install 140. So now I speak from experience that it is critical not to use beta software on a live forum. Had I asked for support, the support staff would have wasted alot of time and probably not been able to fix my problems due to the fact that my code varied from thiers

Thank you!, now THAT I appreciate greatly.

Have not and will not switch my live site to 141 and I am running it on a test site and will continue to report if any errors are found.

I'm also trying to learn PHP and will look into sql and intent do help when possible.

Thanks

haha yes. Look at me! I've been paying for a PHP5 server for the last 3 months that I can't use! I've installed the beta on it (quite difficultly as we can recall, and the issue is being worked on) but nevvvvvver would I evvvvver think about trying to install over my live forum.

Yeah I could end this problem and probably get my live forum running on my new server with 1.4.1 no later than tomorrow morning. But what if a new beta comes out that I can't upgrade to? Then just like Helter, I am stuck.

Or who's to say that dozens of problems don't suddenly arise and then they decide to cancel the beta testing and everyone has to wait for Integramod 2.0 now? Maybe far fetched but it could happen, then just like Helter I would be stuck once again.

hehe...I don't do it because I'm scared to do it. But don't think I dont' want to...I would love to have my forum running on my new server tomorrow. You know you're a true geek when you get giddy over a new faster server.
