Shoutbox problem

My question is how do I put the shoutbox on the Portal page. I see Shoutbox in the IM Portal/Blocks Management and I activated it. However I always thought there were two. Because when I activate it, it does show it on portal but it only shows the banner (title bar). Then you have to click on it to see if someone posted in it or to post in it yourself. How can I get it to show the post and be able to post right off the shoutbox on the portal page. do i have to install another one somewhere or add it to my data base or something. If so were can I download it. Thanks for your time.
