[solved] Getting two different errors with editing profile

PostAuthor: ZacFields » Fri May 26, 2006 8:13 am

Hey guys,

Just did the upgrade from 1.3.2d to 1.4.0 of Integramod and everything is working great!....pretty much.

I am getting two errors reported so far from my members:

The first person is saying that when he wants to change his profile....he said he keeps trying to change his email address and when he presses the submit button, it gives this error:

"Sorry, but this username has already been taken."
-------------------------------------------

The other user has reported this error when he tries to update his info.

Could not rename users group

DEBUG MODE

SQL Error : 1064 You have an error in your SQL syntax. Check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'n'StEaDy'' at line 3

UPDATE phpbb_groups SET group_name = 'sLoW''n''StEaDy' WHERE group_name = 'sLoW'n'StEaDy'

Line : 470
File : profilcp_board_config.php

Anyone imagine this is a CHMOD issue? I would just go start changing CHMOD values but I have no way of testing it because this doesn't happen when I update my profile :::shrugs::::

I suggest it may be to do with the group name. Because it has " or ' it is getting confused with what is the string and what is not

^ Any ideas on how to fix that one? lol It's odd my group names have been the same for so long.

Anyhow...it confuses the heck out of me because it seems like 99% of people are not really having any problem. Maybe I can just sweet-talk these guys into just signing up with a new account or something.

The error "Sorry this username is already taken." does really bother me though. I can remember people getting this error before a long time ago but I don't honestly remember how it came about or how we fixed it. It's one of those cruddy errors that don't really tell you anything other than maybe when editing a profile it's re-sending the username which can't be the case because everyone else's profile changes are working fine.

Add a "[solved]" to this one guys.

The problem is that the usernames both contain an apostrophe ( one of these: ' ) if that makes any sense to you. His username was sLoW'n'StEaDy

The mysql was just getting confused at his screen name adn was returning errors.

Solved, case closed <img> I guess all that's left is for somebody to either add more information on the username restrictions or a link to somewhere on the site where this has been covered and then I guess we're ready for the [solved] maybe?

(In short, it's exactly what Adrian said...just it's the actual username)

Just has this pop up on my site. I think apostrophes in sigs should be eliminated somehow. Make is an invalid character when registering. I can't believe someone found this to be the problem. I would have never found it had it not been for this thread.

When registering with 1.4.0 and above, usernames are restricted. Single apostrophes are not allowed and users will not be able to register with them. Quotes are allowed and shouldn't be a problem, not that I can think of right now anyway.
