Which PHP version is Better?

Hello,

I just received an email from my host saying

We rolled PHP back to version 4 on that server.

But we can configure your site for PHP5 if you want. Let me know if PHP4 is good for you, or if you now require PHP5

What do I need to tell him?
Are there benefits to PHP 5?

Thanks,
Christian

php5 is more secure than php4. meaning that a few of the commonly misused commands and classes have been eliminated, or replaced with more secure versions. If your already on php5 and experiencing no problems, you might want to stay with it. Ive noticed that since I updated to php5 the server seems to be a little slower, but since ive not read any similar complaints, im thinking it is just my setup.

Well, I didnt find it important enough to say anything before but I used htaccess to make my site (whole site from root directory) use php5 instead of php4 (as my host uses both?) and I too noticed the board slowed down. I removed it from php5 but that was just my personal judgement, shouldn't let that affect your decision over security
