Upgrading to 141

PostAuthor: Jagang » Fri Jun 29, 2007 12:47 pm

Ok I will start off by saying that I have been running an integramod forum now for about a year and a half and have done pretty much nothing to the site, in other words I'm a total beginner. When I switched from phpbb lets just say things didn't go so smoothly LOL. Anyway since then I was of the opinion if its not broken don't mess with it. Well now I'm ready to get out of that and start fooling with things a bit and see what I can do. I thought I would start by upgrading from 140 to 141...I mean I am really out of date. So I'm wondering if I could get some direction as to what steps to take in upgrading my forum so I don't lose all the posts that are currently up.

Things I can tell you:
1. I don't own the server that my forums are on...I'm pretty sure the guy who owns the server runs MySQL 5.
2. I ftp in to the server whenever I use it but I can't get in and mess with the server from a remote location just upload files and do anything ftp related (chmod...that kinda stuff, unless someone knows a program that will allow me to do more I currently use cuteftp because it was free, if someone else wants to suggest something that is free and better I'm open to suggestions.)

Anyway I will answer questions as I can but I want to learn as much as I can so maybe we can start here by helping me learn how to upgrade to new versions without crashing my boards...again LOL.

Any help would be greatly appriciated.

do you have access to phpmyadmin?
that way you can do a DB backup

I would make full backups of my files and DB, then follow the instructions in the upgrade package
http://www.integramod.com/forum/dload.p ... ile_id=109

it's really not that bad of an upgrade as long as you follow the instructions

good luck
