Unbanned myself but now what?

PostAuthor: alumsprings » Sat Jul 28, 2007 11:03 am

Some how, and I know I didn't do it, I got banned from my site. I read some posts about fixing it by doing the following:

Code: Select all
TRUNCATE TABLE phpbb_banlist;

It worked fine, but what I want to know is how to prevent this from happening again. The posts I read pertaining to this problem said that at the time this mishap occurred that they were adding more staff....Well in my case, I am the only user on the site at the moment....

My question is what do I need to do to prevent this from happening again?

there are a few things that can cause this. the most common, is incorrect logins. You can edit the amount of login tries in acp/CTracker/Settings/
find Login Protection System/ Number of Logins up to the Visual Confirmation
and
acp/.: Security :./Configuration/Login Attempts

you should set these to be the same # to make it easier to unlock your account should you get locked out

another posibility is incorrect cookie settings. For your board, you can use cookieMOD, then delete your browser cookie for your site

Also, before adding your new staff members, increase the numbers in

ACP
Security
Special
Amount of allowed admins and Amount of allowed mods (set to your #'s)

This will avoid them being banned from the getgo.

Okay, I understand that but I couldn't do anything....I didn't try to log in or anything. When I clicked the link from the home page, it went immediately to a page telling me I was banned. There are a lot of not so net smart members of my church (myself included) that may be frightened off by errors like that. Thanks for the quick response and suggestions. I'll make sure I make those corrections.
