What was done to try to solve the problem?

De.scription and Message

I am trying to set up the News Categories and the RSS feeds but am absolutely zero luck on that. I am trying to set it up basically the same way I did when I was using 1.3.2c....but with this version I have a bunch of junk coming up....You can see some of what I'm talking about when you go to the RSS link on the portal page....the link is

http://www.alumspringsbaptistchurch.org ... portal.php

Any help getting this corrected would be greatly appreciated. Our pastor is planning on announcing our new site tomorrow at church news items will be very important.

Thanks!

Wow, that RSS feed is quite something.

Down at the bottom of all that mess it gives some error lines. I'd start by making sure those files were reuploaded in case they were corrupted somewhere along the way.

includes/news_common.php
news_rss.php
includes/functions.php
includes/news.php

If that doesn't fix things, you'll have to wait for someone smart.

You no longer have those errors at the end... we are getting somewhere.

Reupload this also:

includes/news_data.php

Also, you do not have RSS enabled:

ACP
News Management
Configuration
Enable RSS Sydication to Yes
Submit changes

That code jibberish is from news_data.php so maybe you could post your news_data.php code between code tags here? Or I've attached my news_data.php file zipped for you to compare.

You don't need RSS enabled to post news and you don't need a specific 'news' forum although you can have one if you want.

For every forum you want, you can set it to allow posting of news topics.

ACP
Forum Admin
Permissions
Select the forum you want to allow news postings
Set on Advanced Mode (not Simple Mode)
Set News to MOD or ADMIN (I wouldn't want to allow any user to post something that will display on my portal...)
Submit
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

I checked my news_data.php to yours and it appeared alright but still I decided to go ahead and replace mine. It fixed one part of it. I am now getting a menu for the category set up where I was once getting a lote of code. However, I'm still not getting the setting when writing a post to set it as a news item and I still don't have the RSS feeds. Plus, when I set the news block as active, everything goes wack on the portal page. Blocks shift around to all sorts of weird places. I'm thinking I may need to just re-upload and install everything. When I was uploading the package originally I kept getting booted off and I'm thinking the files got corrupted. But since it installed without any problems I thought maybe everything would be alright. I think I'm going to try a fresh install and see if that works. Thanks for the help. <img>
