In the personal profiles, photo options, which i am embarrassed to say we have only just started using. After a few problems with folder CMOD problems, my members can now upload a photo from there machines. Here is the question though. There is an option to use one in a gallery section. How do you set this up? It lists catagories, but none at the moment are shown, even putting a new folder in the gallery folder by ftp does not show a catagory up, so i presume i have to set this up in the admin panel somewere but cannot find it. Has anyone used this option too its full advantage and can explain it for me <img>

Have you enabled Gallery Photos in ACP -> General Admin?

On my site, empty folders do not display. If you put images within those folders, the folder names should display as categories.

root/images/photos/gallery/category1name/image1.jpg
root/images/photos/gallery/category1name/image2.jpg
root/images/photos/gallery/category2name/image3.jpg
root/images/photos/gallery/category2name/image4.jpg
etc.

You have to create public galleries in the Photo Album section of the ACP there is a link that says categories. there you can create your categories.

Now, that being said, you can also set it up so thatt users can moderate and create their own categories in their very oiwn personal album as well. All settings are in the album config section and categories are in their very own link in the Photo Album section of the ACP as well.
