going from php4 to php5

How can i tell if my board is running php4 or 5? my server runs both, but i just got an email stating that because php4's support will be going away, to upgrade to 5.... what do i have to do (if anything) to make it run on 5, or make sure i'm running it on 5 to make the transition smooth?
