De.scription and Message

He guys.

My host is complaining that my site is overloading the server to the point of crashing. Not sure why.
They tell me I am only allowed to use max. 10 % of resources.

Here's a bit of the email message:

Hello

Your webhosting account <<stuffupf>> has been overloading our server again to the point of crashing it. We might need to suspend your account at any time soon if the situation does not get better
Here is the log taken at a sample time today:

Well they say they might suspend my account, but they did it anyway. The news_rss seems to be a big culprite. I am getting 200+ guests (bots) on all the time. Could these bots be causing this issue?
The bindepot.ca was setup as a must register to access so no guests could access and I think I have never had anymore than 18-20 people on at once.

I would change hosts just because of the way they did that, still you should have 2 other logs. pm me and I'll give you a email to send them. I'll look them over and see if we can get some of the useless users off your site with htaccess rules.

this is the one thing i'm dreading - i'm with dreamhost.com and so far i've had no downtime whatsoever.

they also hav one of the best private server deals around, which with donations from members should be affordable.

i agree with CaNNon - change host - plenty of them around.

I use canaca.com.
Super deal $7.95 per month with up to 100 sites, 1500GB storage & 5200GB bandwidth per month.

They turned it back on and turned it off again because right away it was about to crash the server. They told me they are going to wipe everything on me and make me start over.

I was using a toolbar with a news ticker and a news feed. I think the toolbar might have sucked the resources.
It refreshes the news every 15 mins. I deleted them all and am trying to get the host to test things again.

They are claiming that the php portion of the site is the cause. I figure since the news feed shows up so much in the log, that the toolbar would have to be the blame.

it's not the bandwidth and storage u really need to worry about - it's your site's RAM.

Canaca.com hav a bad rep anyway - i've been with DreamHost since 2003, hosted several sites, and never had any problems

In fact, if i use a lot of a server, they just move me to a server with very few users.

Seems it was the toolbar that was causing the problem.

Before I would have 200+ guest online and only 10-20 registered users on.
Once I removed the news feeds to the toolbar, I am only getting about 10-20 guests now. Legit bots.

With the toolbar, you can set the refresh rate. I think the default is 120 min.
I changed it to 15 min. to refresh faster, not knowing what the results were going to be.

Idiots shut me down again. Guess I am going to have to go to a VPS server.

Nice guys too. Shut you down with no notice or an email to complain.

Their support sucks. They say 24hr support. Literally 24hrs for a reply.

Well looks like I am moving to a VPS server.
Never used this type of setup before, so hope you all don't mind me asking for help.

I love learning new things, but hope this isn't too much of a challenge.

http://www.conduit.com

You can create your own toolbar.
The one i created has shortcut or hyperlinks to each section of my forum.
I also added links to other sites and tools that are useful.
The more peple using it, the more money you can make.

I have 4618 installations, about 1300 active users.
I make about $300 a month. Helps finance the hosting.

They project if you can get 10000 active users, you can make about $2600 a month.
Gotta a long way to go yet. LOL
