Usergroups for the 21st Century?

PostAuthor: spaniel » Wed Feb 06, 2008 8:49 am

Your phpBB Version: 2.0.
phpBB Type: Integramod 141

The groups section is great in what you can do with them and i plan on my site(s) to have loads of different interest groups (perhaps even 50 to 100), many plugged into a forum, but all covering different interests/hobbies/ etc. from sports to music to the arts. this way people with similar interests can find each other and those with very different interests don't clash on the same forum as they'll hav their own specialised forums (in addition to general ones).

But the pull down list and pointless "view information" before being able to join each group is phpBB's version of Japanese torture.

So to bring Usergroups out of Guantanemo Bay, i wondered what people thought of, or would be interested in, a redesign of the template files that feed off groupcp.php.

I was thinking of a table with 4 columns:

usergroup name
usergroup de.scription
type of group
and a column to "join" the group or a tick box to allow joining many groups at the same time.

Has anybody tried to do this or is Usergroups the way it is (after all this time) because a simple and logical table with tick boxes just can't be done?

Surely i'm not the only one who wants to break out of Abu Ghraib, am i? lol.
