Are there IntegraMod buttons for advertising IM141?

PostAuthor: spaniel » Wed Feb 06, 2008 10:05 pm

Having got a lot of support on this site and not being able (yet) to contribute financially, i remembered my webhost's advertising/marketing strategy (which is both clever and impressive) and thought it might be a good strategy for this project, too.

They use a series of buttons that people can put on their websites to advertise their webhost...

So I thought, why don't we do the same for IntegraMod?

Here's an example of a button that can go anywhere on a site:
https://secure.newdream.net/green3.gif

It's more memorable than a line of text, it's more noticeable, and as it looks cool, people are more likely to click on it, bringing more traffic this way, dont you think?

So why don't we make some for IntegraMod? They're small but very noticeable so they're great above the forum, in the footer, on the navigation bar (like on wordpress).

Of course the catch is when i say "we", I dont actually know how to make them, which is why i thought i'd suggest it here cos i'd be more than willing to use them if other people made them

Perhaps different sizes and colours for difference places, themes... etc. but not like phpbb tweak's conveyor belt one, that'd just make people dizzy lol.

Actually i'm surprised my webhost doesnt use a button on their actual site, at the bottom of their screen, they've got the tiniest most boring text:

ÂÂÂ © 1996-2008 DreamHost
DreamHost is a registered trademark of New Dream Network, LLC

which explains why this is the first time i've seen it in 6 years!

Let's make IntegraMod noticeable from day one

You all ready have that spaniel, I think it in the default setup of the extra menu.
If you dig around a bit I'm sure you'll find the image.

Spaniel, the information at the top of your post is there for a reason. It helps us determine your server setup for support reasons, and it displays your url, so we can see the problems first hand, and also verify that you qualify for support by leaving the copyright info intact. You have made many posts here and at integramod.nl that are contradictory, so I have no choice but to hide your posts. Staff are the only ones who can read them and until you post the url to your site that has all the members you talk about, They wil not be able to offer you any more support

You do make me chuckle Helter! You seem to think i hav a site to show off!

Perhaps http://www.TheEnglishPractice.com was an im140 /Mambo/Joomla success, or maybe my install worked *fourth* time so that http://www.JamieCrabb.com or http://www.daniel360.com are in full operation. After all, they've only been "offline" for months!

Sites that are supposed to be integramodised yet they're all empty.

I've given up on phpbb2 and im141, deleted the lot. Takes too long to install when u hav to install it four times, the chmod nightmare never went away, i couldn't get my head round the security that didnt seem to prevent my kb file being corrupted but wud stop at nothing to stop me adding a new option to one of the PCP lists.

But the big dealbreaker of all: nobody wanted PCP. "too complicated" and "too much of a maze" were the comments.
it was also "ugly with all those boxes that dont line up".

Then i show people phpBB3 and the award-worthy Stargate Portal, which has a logical, modifiable User Control Panel and the comments are: "beautifully logical", "simple to use" and "looks really modern".

It took just *2* minutes to install and no chmod necessary. For the click-happy among us, you might want to check it out - all are welcome! I have such confidence in it, i've left it open:

Many of your posts here and on integramod.nl say you do. You continually quote your members to backup whatever story your pitching at the moment.

But the big dealbreaker of all: nobody wanted PCP. "too complicated" and "too much of a maze" were the comments.
it was also "ugly with all those boxes that dont line up".

these must be your comments. Regular user accounts are not complicated. Without pcp, you will have to physically modify your files to make any changes. Even though phpbb3 UCP is way better than the default phpbb2 version, it still pales in comparison to the available options of PCP

Nearly every mod available for phpbb3 is in alpha or beta, which is why we have not yet released a phpbb3 version.
Also FYI Stargate Portal = IntegraMOD Portal.

my quotes were from testers, and friends wanting to get their own websites up and running.

i was shocked by their comments as much as you - i used to love PCP until i actually started to use it / adjust it. but what else can i do? i agree to get a website up and running for someone and they tell me they can't get on with PCP, can i make it easier to use or remove it...

i did my best - i still have the def_userfields / usermaps backups if anyone wants to see those. might make creating new fields easier.

i realise Stargate is IM Portal - i'm merely referring to it as Stargate so as not to confuse it with earlier versions.

Stargate tho is not just a coding genius, it's also a work of art. You and mike should be very proud of yourselves for creating the best portal i and my friends/testers have ever seen.

Stargate is in beta - but for a beta it works extremely well - i've had zero problems with it and i've even managed to install the Phoogle (Google) Maps mod into it (tho not showing yet cos i'm testing NeXur's new template) - and the site still works perfectly!

What i'm able to do in a couple of hours on Stargate/phpbb3 used to take me several days on phpbb2.

The future's exciting, the future's IntegraMod 3

I questioned this because you told Okki that it was all behind a firewall and not accessible from the web

My contributions were minor. KISS/IntegraMOD Portal/Stargate Portal ...whatever you want to call it, has been all Mike since the very first developer snapshots were released. In fact my first several working versions of it and my first few templates for it were before phpbb devs had made an install file.

Sorry spaniel, but sometimes your kind of confusing (no disrespect intended).
I'm glad Stargate is working for you and will fill your needs.

That's not what I told Okki and i feel with Okki that he doesn't understand much of what i tell him. I told him it was behind an htaccess login (and offered him the password - which he turned down). I put it behind an htaccess login cos i couldn't work out the security - even when i kept file scans, it produced red messages I didnt understand about files and with my layman's alterations things started to not work anymore. Hence one fresh install after the other. One site was also going to contain themes of an adult nature and i didnt want the link displayed on a public forum where children could access it. I told CaNNon this via PM (feel free to read it).

My phpbb3 site was behind an htaccess login until today. Having had no problems whatsoever I feel sure that it won't get the cyberpolice after me.

I wasn't willing to take the risk of releasing onto the net a site that was giving me security error messages that i didnt understand. As i told Okki via PM, I had a terrible experience with the security on a Wordpress blog and i dont ever want to have a repeat of that. It was quite scary and my webhost were furious.

So this time i wanted to spend time reading CaNNon's posts on security and then try a fresh install but then i had the same chmod problems and i felt i cudn't go thru that again.

At the time while reading about security i kept drifting over to phpBB.com amazed at the look and feel of the new version and then i found Mike's new /phpbb3/ directory and one thing led to another and within minutes I had Stargate with phpBB3 up and running. literally in minutes... Mike is to phpBB what Da Vinci was to air travel :)
