If you take that code you just listed on this site and place it in a forum post, it will show a thumbnail view of the pic. If the user wishes to see a larger image of that image they just simply click on it.
I think that code works out real nice on websites. When people use it, the forum is not stretched beyond all recognition then due to it only shoing a thumbnail view.
As for making it show you a regular html or bbcode like photobucket does, i think the closest you are gonna get is the [albuming] [/albuming]
BUT as allways, I stand to be corected if Im wrong. <img>

You could just make a extra image folder just for hot links.
so say you use:
http://www.yoursite.com/hotlinks/mypic.gifthen just drop it in tags for the link and you should be fine, should you disable your forum/upgrade ect.... your links will still function. If you wish to disable a link you left somewhere just delete the image no messing with your forums to do it.

no code is needed that way, you just create a folder on your site.
If
http://www.mysite.com is root use the hosts cpannel and add a folder like "links" to it.
So the url will become
http://www.mysite.com/links/ now put the things you wish to hot link to in the folder.
Say we add "my.gif" to the folder the url becomes
http://www.mysite.com/links/my.gif you can use the url inside the tags on what ever site you wish and it will link it.
