De.scription and Message

Announcement topics being displayed in the announcement block of the portal page are not displaying album images linked inside their content via BBCode.

Is there something I must configure, or am I using the wrong tool for the job?

from ACM...IM Portal...Blocks Management...<my> I selected Edit from the Announcements block. The form I am presented with has an empty text editing area which I am not using, below that are radio button selections labeled 'Type' with options being BBCode and HTML.

BBCode is selected but the image still does not render in the announcement block of my portal page. =(

I assume you have set a forum id from your portal configuration and are attempting to make an announcement from there.

I tested the announcements block and not everything works with it using the insert img bbcode. A normal img and a thumbnail image will both work. However if you use any kind of positioning it will not display the image in the block only the bbcode. An external image is fine even with positioning. The photo bbcode works fine in this block as well.

[url=http]Here[/url] is a link to my test forum to illustrate this. I removed the truncation of announcements to be able to see. Even though the formatting of text is off, probably due to such a long post it works.

Hope that helped.

So then, If an image is posted to an album of the site, there effectively is no way of getting is to display using the announcement block?

What would the work around for this be, assuming that images that are going to go into the announcement posts are always going to be posted via albums/galleries? I've seen sites with announcements on the portal with images included. how is this normally accomplished?

sorry if my post didn't make it clear. The album images already work with the announcements block. I put the link to my test forum to illustrate this. The top 2 work just fine linked from the album. Positioning using the bbcode doesn't work is all.

When an image is uploaded to the album it is assigned a number and you just select that number when using the insert image bbcode (mountain w/sun icon) This same bbcode can be used for linking pictures from another site, you just follow the prompts.
Hope that is more clear.

Oh I beleive you. I saw the image plain as day on your site. Unfortunately, I must still be doing something incorrectly.

in portal configuation I have the Announcements Forum ID(s) set to 5, which is the number after the 'f' in the url referenced when you mouse over the forum title (http://www.exnihiloguild.net/forums/viewforum.php?f=5)

When attempting to place the image into my posting, I click the icon you reference in your instruction (mountain with little sun above and to the right of it), and at first I get a popup asking me if I want to display an image from the image gallery. Clicking 'OK' is affirmative, and clicking cancel will allow me to link to an external image. As the pic i want to display is indeed in the gallery, i select 'OK'

Next I am prompted as to how I want the image displayed 'OK' for thumnail, 'Cancel' for full size. I Select Cancel.

Next I get a .script prompt asking me to enter the gallery image number. I enter 1, nothing else, and click 'OK'

the next .script prompt asks me for positioning. the last option says to leave it blank for no positioning. I enter nothing, and click 'OK'

Now what appears in my posting (still editing it) is this:
Code: Select all
[fullalbumimg]1[/fullalbumimg]

When the posting is submitted and viewed in the forum to which is was posted as an announcement, it displays fine. However, when viewed via the announcements block from the portal page it does not display the image, rather it displays this][fullalbumimg:28373cedd4]1[/fullalbumimg:28373cedd4][/code]
which is why I included the address of the site in question, so that this can be observed.

I do not know how simpler I can state the problem. I am following the .scripts as you instruct, which leads me to believe that either i am configuring my announcements incorrectly (I am assuming that just clicking the 'Announcement' radio button for 'Post topic as' is how to designate a topic as an Announcement) or more likely something else is restricting the display of images on my portal page, and my inexperience with phpbb and IM is hindering me from finding out what it could be. I've looked all over the place.

Seems like you spoon fed me the way to do it, and I licked that spoon clean. Still not getting anything into my mouth though <img>

Assume for the moment that I am doing everything correctly as far as submitting the posting and the problem is persisting, what would be the next thing you would look at?

I copied your post onto my test board and came up with the same problem after some fiddling. It is the truncation feature. Go to: ACP:IM Portal: Portal Configuration: Length of Announcements -yours is probably at 250 and because of all the text and the way the truncation works it takes the image away and only the bbcode remains. So just adjust that number or leave it blank to have it work. Hope that fixes it for you.
