Where are the resident PHP mysql general forum wizzards HELP

Well my hosting provider just went to php5 n mysql5 and I now gotta update my forums, but I want to do back ups and test on copies first.

Wondering when I export my database, how does an 11meg DB end up being a 4 meg download. And once imported into a new DB its only a tad biger 5.1 megs???

Where are the extra megs going???

Like in DB the post table is 4.1megs alone with over 3000 records, but when exported and then imported to the new test DB its only 428kb with 931 records???

Is there something in the export setting I need to change to get all the right info??? I dunno, I just let it use the default settings when it comes up.
