[For those of you with too much time...]

Is there anyone out there who might be willing to write a "Smart Search Mod"? The concept is the extend the normal "Search Forum" and "Search KB" so that they also propose other words to search for and give them an option to do that search. I propose that the back end be handled by a table of similar terms which the sight moderators could edit.

For example, let's say the mod existed on this site, and that the following terms were considered similar (one line for each similar set)

- integramod, IM
- mod, hack, extension, plugin
- upgrade, update

Then searching for "IM 2.0.21 phpbb upgrade" would also give the option to search for "IM 2.0.21 phpbb update", "integramod 2.0.21 phpbb upgrade", and "integramod 2.0.21 phpbb update".

Oh yes, the mod should also fix the fact that searching for "2.0.21" won't get any hits because the "." is not handled well.

I can't seem to find much about "search_synonyms.php". (yes, I am search challenged -- but I do discover lots of interesting sites that way <img>. ) I did find search_synonyms.txt in my language directory, and it looks like it might help if it is filled out correctly.
